Case study · Primary School

Crubany National School

A school website that does far more than publish news: a private space where families and the special education team can talk about a child, safely.

Logicode Digital rebuilt Crubany National School's website in Co. Cavan, replacing WordPress with a custom school platform. Alongside the public site it provides a secure parent portal with per-child messaging to each pupil's special education teacher and confidential document sharing, plus staff tools for news, galleries, calendar and policies. It scores 100 on Google Lighthouse.

The brief

The school had a WordPress site its staff had grown wary of. Photo galleries broke whenever anyone tried to lay one out, image-heavy pages were slow, and years of school photography had turned into gigabytes of unoptimised files. The bigger gap was private: the school had no secure way for parents and its special education team to discuss an individual child or exchange sensitive documents, so that was happening over ordinary email and on paper.

What we did

We built a custom school platform rather than another template. The public site is fast, accessible and simple for the office to keep current. Behind it sits a parent portal where each family sees only their own children, and where every child is linked to their own special education teacher for private messaging and confidential document sharing. Staff have separate tools for news, galleries, the calendar and policies, with permissions that keep classroom staff out of parent conversations entirely.

Security

Built to stay locked down.

Every site we build is audited before launch and hardened as standard. Here is what that means in practice for this one.

  • Two-factor authentication is required on every staff account, not offered as an option
  • A parent can only ever see their own children, checked on the server for every request
  • Confidential documents are held in private storage that is not reachable from the website, and released only after an ownership check
  • Classroom staff have no access to parent messaging or documents; what each person can see is set by their role
  • Email alerts about a new message or document never contain the contents
  • Every administrative action is recorded, so any change can be traced
  • Independently audited before launch with no known vulnerabilities
  • Encrypted connection across every page, with automatic off-site backups

Search & visibility

Built to be found.

Technical SEO is part of the build, not an upsell afterwards, so the site launches ready to rank and ready to be quoted by AI search.

  • A perfect 100 SEO score on Google Lighthouse, on mobile and desktop
  • Structured data so search engines understand the school, where it is and how to contact it
  • Written titles and descriptions on every page, never auto-generated
  • A sitemap that updates itself as news, galleries and events are added
  • Server-rendered pages that search engines and AI crawlers can read without running scripts
  • Accessible headings and descriptive alt text throughout, which helps readers and search engines alike

Design & brand

Styled around the business.

The design takes its lead from the school crest: deep navy and gold on a warm cream ground, with a classic serif for headings that suits a school established in 1965. The homepage opens with drone footage of the school itself rather than stock photography. The whole site is built to WCAG 2.2 AA with reduced-motion support and reader controls, because a school website has to work for every family that visits it.
